Police and military in Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur recovered two explosives planted by rebels near two schools last Friday and Sunday.

The first improvised explosive was found about 50 meters away from Buburay Elementary School, a police report said yesterday.

The report said that authorities had received a cell phone text message from a concerned resident saying that there was an explosive around 10 a.m. on Friday.

One cop down!

A POLICEMAN in the line of duty was shot and severely wounded in a brief firefight with suspected drug pushers in Murga Street, Sta. Maria, this city Thursday.

Authorities identified the wounded cop as P02 Lommel Dela Torre, of legal age, married, assigned with Sta. Maria Police Office, and a resident of Southcom Village, Barangay Upper Calarian, this city.

Man, 45, mauled to death

A 45-year-old man was beaten to death by his relative in Barangay Putik, this city last Thursday night.

A police report identified the fatality as Antonio Sarte, single, of Lobregat Village, Putik.

Sarte was beaten up by Jesus Manuel, 37.

Festival de las Bellas de Flores set for May 26

THE Summer Festival in Zamboanga will culminate on May 26 with the Festival de las Bellas de Flores that will showcase the city's beautiful senoritas in their artistic arcos.

Some 15 local designers are expected to participate in the competition for the best gown competition. There will also be the search for prettiest senorita and the most outstanding arco.

Botika ng Bayan - IMEX Depot med mission today

THE Botika ng Bayan Depot of International MedExchange Depot (IMEX) Inc. will host another Medical Mission Activity today, May 19, 2007. at the Medical Mission Ground, beside Botika ng Bayan along Governor Camins Avenue, Zamboanga City.
