Police and soldiers are on full red alert as more than 355,000 registered voters are expected to go to die polls today to elect a new government for Zamboanga City. Up for grabs will be the mayorship, the vice mayor-ship, 16 council seats and two representatives for Congress. The City, which, was divided into two early this year, includes 98 barangays. The first legislative district is represented in the Lower House for the 37 barangays while the second legislative district is represented for the 61 barangays. |

A policeman was shot dead by his brother-in-law in Barangay Sinunuc last Wednesday night.
A police report identified the fatality as PO1 Ricky Apion of the Ayala Police Station and was a resident of Sinunuc. He sustained a gunshot wound in the head and died on the spot.
Police identified the attacker as Rosely Enok, a member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU). |

LAWYERS of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) have formally lodged a complaint with the officer in charge of the Western Mindanao State University for the "unlawful display and posting of election propaganda materials" of a congressional candidate inside the WMSU premises.
At the same time, lawyers Jose Saavedra and Evangeline Doctolero complained of the utilization of WMSU's radio hour every Saturday from 8:30-9:00 a.m. because it "directly favors or promotes the candidacy of certain candidates in the forthcoming elections or otherwise engages in partisan political activity." |

Three business establishments--two internationally acclaimed fast food chains and a medicine depot--were formally inaugurated in different sites Friday, amid claims from administration critics that Zamboanga is sluggish and neglected.
The opening of the Botika ng Bayan depot in Gov. Camins and the 9th Jollibee outlet and 3rd Greenwich branch in the newly constructed Southway Mall along P. Lorenzo Street came three weeks after another investor, Filinvest Land, one of the largest real estate firm in the country, had the groundbreaking of its exclusive housing subdivision in Tumaga. |
