Sayyaf dies of heart attack after re-capture
AN ABU Sayyaf suspect died apparently from heart attack few hours after he was re-captured on Friday offshore Zamboanga City, the military reported here.

The Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) reported Saturday that Sandico Sadae died upon arrival at the military hospital in this city where he was rushed following complaints of severe chest pain.
 
Food agency intensifies 'Palengke Watch'
The National Food Authority (NFA) is intensifying its campaign dubbed as "Palengke Watch," aimed at running after unscrupulous businessmen who are selling NFA rice beyond the government-regulated price in Zamboanga City.

NFA Provincial Manager Jul Akmad Lawama said his office has received numerous reports and complaints that several businessmen are selling NFA rice at a higher price than that of the required selling price.
 
Asia's Latin City promotion gets ribbing
The promotion of Zamboanga City as Asia's Latin City got support from a senatorial bet, who said the uniqueness of the city should be exploited to the fullest.

Independent senatorial candidate Francisco Pangilinan said the promotion stunt of the City Government to market Zamboanga as the Latin City of Asia is "very unique" and if elected, he said he would support the efforts of the local government to boost its tourism.
 
Zambo mayor condemns Sayyaf beheading of workers
MAYOR Celso Lobregat on Friday condemned the execution of seven workers in Sulu, six of whom are construction workers from Zamboanga City, by the Abu Sayyaf, stressing that the long arm of the law will catch up with the perpetrators soon.

"We condemn the murder and we condemn the terrorists who did those acts," Lobregat declared, as he ordered City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo to look after the needs of the victims' survivors.
 
No more pursuit operations against Malik: military
THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) shifted its military tactics from that of aggressive pursuit operations against Moro rebel leader Ustadz Habier Malik to that of defensive stance, a top regional military commander said Thursday.

Lieutenant General Eugenio Cedo, chief of the Western Mindanao Command, told reporters the orders given to him by AFP chief General Hermogenes Esperon is: "To occupy Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) camp in Bitan-ag, take defensive stance and no more pursuit operations against Malik."
The order to stop pursuing Malik was seen as a major shift from the earlier announced orders by Esperon to hunt down the renegade MNLF commander.
 
Congressional bet to file raps vs survey proponent
A CONGRESSIONAL bet is set to take a legal action against the organizer of a survey that allegedly deceives and conditions the minds of the voting public.

Former Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) president Dr. Eldigario Gonzales, irked by the results of the survey where he was shown trailing behind his opponent, said he will be consulting his lawyer to take appropriate legal action against WMSU Professor Bien Fernandez, who spearheaded the survey.
