Celso launches P7M SPES 2007

Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday officially launched the implementation of the city's Summer Pt ogram for the Employment of Students (SPES), a program jointly undertaken with the Department of Labor and Employment

Lobregat has increased the allocation for the SPES this year to P7 million that will ensure the employment of over 3, 000 high school and college students this year.

Sulu fighting unfortunate: Palace peace adviser

PRESIDENTIAL Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza described as "unfortunate" the recent renewed skirmishes in Sulu between the military and some elements of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) headed by renegade Ustadz Habier Malik.

Dureza said the military action was not directed at the MNLF as a whole but only against the group of Malik, who was responsible for a series of attacks on Panamao town where there were several civilian casualties and private properties destroyed.

Red carpet for Pacquiao

The red carpet will be rolled out for "people’s champ" Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao who is expected to arrive Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Centennial Terminal 2 on Philippine Airlines flight PR113 from Los Angeles, California at 4:30 a.m.

President Arroyo congratulated the 28-year-old international super featherweight champion for his knockout victory over previously undefeated Mexican boxer Jorge Solis, calling him up at midnight on Sunday and describing him as a symbol of the Filipino’s desire for excellence.
