 Fire razed 15 commercial establishments just a stone throw away from the City Hall of Zamboanga Thursday evening.

Top U.S. Commander In Southern Philippines
The commander of the United States Special Operations Command, General Bryan Brown, inspected Thursday American soldiers deployed in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.

Brown, accompanied by Colonel David Maxwell, of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines, also met with senior Filipino military officials headed by General Juancho Sabban, of the Philippine Marines at the Western Mindanao Command headquarters.

Local security officials did not give details about Brown’s visit, but hundreds of U.S. troops are currently stationed in Zamboanga City and other parts of the southern region helping the Philippine military defeat terrorism.

Filipino troops are battling Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiya militants tied to al-Qaeda terror network in the islands of Mindanao and Jolo in the Sulu Archipelago.

Brown is responsible for all special operations forces of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps; active duty and reserve. (Mindanao Examiner)
 
Dreaded typhoid claims child's life, infects 47

A MINOR died while at least 47 others are suspected to have contracted typhoid fever in two barangays of the city in the Past weeks.

City Health Officer-in charge Dr. Kibtiya Uddin disclosed that per monitoring. at least ten people have contracted the disease in barangay Buenagatas and 37 others in barangay Campo Islam have been contaminated by the disease.

Uddin said that a team of doctors and sanitary inspectors from the Department of Health (DOH) and her office have already gone to the two infected communities to lend health assistance to the patients mostly children and adults.

 
Beng call - for intense inter-faith dialogues

DISTRICT I congressional aspirant Beng Climaco has cited anew the importance of inter-faith respect and understanding in creating a society rooted in values and where people peacefully coexist. Climaco, who is the incumbent vice mayor, been involved in interfaith initiatives even before she joined the City Council in 1998. She said promotion of inter-faith and cultural understanding is one of her focus, as it is about building good relations between the different faiths in a way which respects the integrity and the distinct historical tradition of each one.

 

 
Gerky commends Zambo Red Cross

GERKY VALESCO, District I council bet of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) yesterday commended the men and women of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Zamboanga City Chapter under its Administrator Vic Liozo Jr. for being a good partner of the city government and the city residents as well.

Valesco said that over the years the PNRC has saved thousands of lives in terms of providing the needed blood to patients whether rich or poor.

 
Dengue stabilized after noise barrage

THE number of dengue fever cases in Zamboanga has stabilized two weeks after the implementation of anti-dengue initiatives by the City Health Office under Dr. Rodel Agbulos.

From the previous 15 cases per week, the number of dengue admissions in hospitals decreased to 10 per week afler the conduct of the "Dengue Noise Barrage" and heightened information and education campaign.

 

Although lower than the previous weeks, Agbulos said the weekly dengue cases registered is still higher than the weekly average of 8 cases per week during the same time last year.

Overall, 154 dengue cases were admitted in hospitals in the city from January until the first week of April. Records show that the number is 57 percent higher than the number of cases registered during the same period last year.
