A HOUSEWIFE and her young son were slightly burned in an early dawn fire

yesterday after their 2-storey residential house was razed to the ground at Araneta Compound, Daisy Road, Barangay Guiwan, this city.

Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) City Fire Marshall Chief Insp. Jaime Ramirez identified the victims as Elumerita Manalo y Berboja, 37, married, and her son Johnny, 6, both residents of the said place.

Ramirez said that both victims (Elumerita and Johnny) suffered 1st degree burns at the right hand and right feet, respectively.

Investigation conducted by SFOI Dexter Zabala and P02 Luciano Oliaso, Jr. of the City Fire Central Office disclosed that the fire originated from the bedroom of the said house occupied by Elumerita Manalo.

According to Ramirez, electrical short circuit is being studied as the probable cause of the fire apparently because of an overheated electric fan.

He said that the house occupants were still sleeping when the fire started at the room at about 4:40 in the morning then guttered and totally burned down the house.

The fire lasted for 10 minutes and was contained within 30 minutes.

The two injured victims were later brought to the nearest hospitaI for medication.

Ramirez told Zamboanga Today that the damage to property is an estimated P200,000. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
