Lobregat vows continued support to agri-fisheries

MAYOR Celso Lobregat yesterday cited the importance of the agriculture and fisheries sectors to the cities economy as he vowed sustained support to the group to further boost production efficiency.

Speaking before some 300 farmers, fisher folk, homemakers and youths during the 16th Farm Family Forum in Culianan yesterday morning, Lobregat said agriculture and fisheries are among the priority programs of his administration.

 

Lobregat has provided hum and fishery tools and implements not only when he assumed as well Chief Executive in July 2001 but when he was the city's representative in Congress from 1998 to June 2001,

Agricultural infrastructure projects and other assistance in the form of seedlings and fingerlings were also provided to the sector. The city government also provided assistance to farmers and fisher folk who were affected by calamities.

Unity among the city officials starting from the mayor, vice mayor, congressman down to the city councilors is the main attribute to the successful implementation of plans and programs for the farmers and fisher folks, he stressed.

During his speech, Lobregat also took the opportunity of explaining to the participants about the newly created district of Zamboanga and the new system of electing officials on May 14.

The 16th City Farm Family forum is an activity that gives due recognition to the contributions of fanners, fisher folk, women, youth and stakeholders in the effort to build a strong republic through agri-fishery. The City Agriculturist Office along with the Rural Improvement Club of Zamboanga and the 4-H Club sponsored the whole day activity.

Members of Farmers and Fisher folks associations, Rural Improvement Clubs and 4-H Clubs from the 6 agricultural districts of Zamboanga participated in the activity which was themed: "Unidad de los Agricultores Pescadores: Seguridad de Comida".

Aside from Lobregat, Cong. Erbie Fabian, Vice Mayor Beng Climaco, Councilors Mila Velasquez, Asbi Edding, Kim Elago and Cesar Iturralde, City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat, representatives from the Agriculture Regional Office and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and other agencies also graced the event.

The forum was highlighted by the search for Miss 4-11 and the awarding of the 2006-2007 Gawad Saka City Awardees. (City Hall PIO)
