The commander of the United States Special Operations Command, General Bryan Brown, inspected Thursday American soldiers deployed in Zamboanga City in southern Philippines.

Brown, accompanied by Colonel David Maxwell, of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines, also met with senior Filipino military officials headed by General Juancho Sabban, of the Philippine Marines at the Western Mindanao Command headquarters.

Local security officials did not give details about Brown’s visit, but hundreds of U.S. troops are currently stationed in Zamboanga City and other parts of the southern region helping the Philippine military defeat terrorism.

Filipino troops are battling Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiya militants tied to al-Qaeda terror network in the islands of Mindanao and Jolo in the Sulu Archipelago.

Brown is responsible for all special operations forces of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps; active duty and reserve. (Mindanao Examiner)
