THE labor sector is submitting a petition anytime during the first semester of the year for a new wage hike in the region. Labor leader Jose Suan made the announcement after attending a two-day conference of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) last week in Manila.
Suan said they will conduct a thorough study first before they will submit a petition with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) for a wage increase.
Based on the latest wage order, which was issued last year, the minimum wage of for agricultural workers is P180 a day while P215 for non-agricultural.
Suan said the amount will not be more than P20 daily once they will file a petition for a new wage hike.
Suan, who sits a member in the RTWPB, is the president of the Philippine Industries and Industrial Labor Union based in the region.
He warned the employers to comply with the wage order being issued by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through the RTWPB.
He said violators of the wage order will be dealt with accordingly once enough evidence will be gathered against them.
