While asleep with live-in mate AN AGAR-AGAR (seaweed) farmer was shot to death Friday night at Sitio Tamagan, Barangay Limaong Island, and east of this city. The victim's common-law-wife, who was with him during the incident, escaped unhurt. Local operations branch chief Sr. Insp. Diomarie Albarico identified the fatality as Jovito Alvarez y Taulan, 30, married and a resident of the said barangay. The cause of death was a gunshot wound on the victim's forehead.
The police identified the common-law-wife as Dayana Lakibuk, of legal age, also a resident of the said place. Initial investigation conducted by the responding policemen of Vitali Police Station led by Insp. Danilo Tendero disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim together and his common-law-wife were already sleeping inside their house when the suspect barged in. The still unidentified suspect shot the victim once on the forehead. After the incident, the suspect immediately fled on foot towards an unknown direction. An empty shell and a slug from a .45 caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene, and were believed to be the weapon used by the suspect. Authorities established the love-triangle angle as the probable motive. The cadaver was brought to Dr. Fernando Gestoso, a government physician, for the postmortem examination. A follow-up investigation was conducted against the suspect for his early arrest. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
