THE latest survey conducted by Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) showed incumbent Mayor Celso L. Lobregat getting the upper hand over his challenger, Crisanto de la Cruz, in the mayoralty race while independent councilor bets in District 2 emerged leading against Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) bets.
STATFACTS-WMSU MPA (Master in Public Administration) Survey was conducted last March 31, April 1, 8, and 9 by students currently enrolled in the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program of the College of Public Administration and Development Studies (CPADS) of WMSU.
While there are those who doubt the credibility of local surveys conducted, Prof. Bien Fernandez, STATFACTS director, said the survey served as practicum project of MPA students in fulfilling part of the masteral course program.
Fernandez said 662 household respondents participated in District 1 and 665 household respondents in District 2, or a total of 1,327 registered voters in Zamboanga City.
The survey has a 95 percent level of confidence with a plus and minus 3% margin of error for mayor and vice mayor and a four percent margin of error for the city councilors and congressman, he said.
The respondents were asked: "If elections were held today, who will you vote for mayor, vice mayor, congressman and councilor?"
For the mayoral position, Lobregat got 68 percent in District 1 and 64 percent in District 2 while De la Cruz got 21 percent in District 1 and 23 percent in District 2.
For vice mayor, Mannix Dalipe (Independent) earned 37 percent rating and 39 percent rating in Districts 1 and 2, respectively. Mila Velasquez (LDP) got 34 percent rating for both districts. Vic Solis (Kampi) – nine percent and 10 percent for Districts 1 and 2, respectively. Sinunuc Barangay Captain Rudy Bayot (Independent) got 11 percent and seven percent from District 1 and District 2, respectively.
Results of survey for candidates for the House of Representatives are as follows: Beng Climaco (LDP) – 73 percent; Eldy Gonzales (Kampi) – 20 percent for District 1 while for District 2 Erbie Fabian (LDP) – 72 percent, Susan delos Reyes – 16 percent, Sam Enesando – three percent.
For city councilors the candidates who landed the top eight are: For District 1 - Charlie Mariano (61 percent), Jimmy Cabato (58 percent), Rudy Lim (51 percent), Ric Baban (47 percent), Max Enriquez (46 percent), Bong Ko (39 percent), Mel Sadain (37 percent), Jawo Jimenez (34 percent).
