CITY Mayor Celso Lobregat spearheaded the inauguration of the P4 million Texas-Sinoropan road project in barangay Licomo Wednesday, barely a month after he inspected and ordered its swift implementation.

Lobregat said the 630 linear meter farm to market road which links Zamboanga City to Siocon and Sirawai in Zamboanga del Norte is a dream come true for the residents whose main livelihood is farming. The road linkage will help spur economic growth in the area thereby alleviating the plight of the residents. It will improve the residents' mobility and will provide accessibility in transporting farm produce.

For a while, the project was beset with legal impediments but Lobregat was able to facilitate the early solution of the conflict, thus, the realization of the road-concreting project.

The Texas-Sinoropan road is only one of the multi-million worth of projects allocated for the remote village of Licomo, located in the east coast boundary to Zamboanga del Sur, according to Lobregat.

The city government under the Lobregat administration has allocated a total of P8.9 million for various infrastructure projects in the area. These include rehabilitation of foot bridges, construction of fence, construction of slope protection, construction of solar dryer, construction of multi-purpose pavement, construction/improvement of four other farm-to-market roads and rehabilitation/construction of irrigation structure.

Assisting Lobregat during the inauguration were re-electionist Congressman Erbie Fabian (District II), vice mayoralty aspirant Mila Velasquez, re-electionist Councilors Asbi Edding, Rey Candido, Cesar Iturralde, Kim Elago, Nonong Guingona, Roel Natividad and new council aspirants Lilia Nuno and Eddie Saavedra, Licomo barangay officials led by Wendel Bonda-on, City Engineer Luis Despalo and representatives from the private contractor.

Licomo residents were thankful to the Mayor Lobregat and his administration for the unending support being given to their village.

Bonda-on said the numerous projects allocated for his barangay are manifestations that the present administration is sincere in its desire to look after the welfare of the constituents.

Lobregat said the unity of all local officials ensures the smooth implementation of projects and plans set out by his administration.

He stressed the importance of electing city officials belonging to one party saying that it will pave way for the continuity of the plans and programs started by the administration of the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat. (SE)
