The International Monitoring Team 3 (IMT-3) based in Zamboanga City headed by Lt. Colonel Radzuan Bin Abubakar yesterday paid a courtesy call at the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) to strengthen allies between the two parties. ZCPO director Sr. Supt. Manuel Barcena disclosed that the IMT-3 thanked the officers and men of the local police for their warm accommodation and humble acceptance to the group during the said visit.
Barcena added that the local police have prepared a summary security briefing regarding the peace and order of Zamboanga City and the present monitoring of lawless elements particularly, the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) lost command, and other armed groups operating in the city. A token was given to the city police director by the IMT in appreciation of the cooperation and firm support given to the Malaysian Armed Forces especially with the IMT. On the other hand, Barcena assured the IMT group that the entire local police force will do its best to assist and support for them to achieve their goal. The IMT group was created last October 2004 to monitor the ongoing peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (GRP-MILF). Barcena confirmed that there were no reports gathered by the police intelligence regarding the regrouping of MILF groups within the city’s jurisdiction.
