The Nuevo Zamboanga Movement (NZM) is set to file charges against two survey groups for blatantly violating the rules and regulations of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) with regards to the releases of survey results to the public.

This, after District I Comelec officer Roy Cuevas urged the aggrieved candidates to file complaints against Tingcungco Group of Researchers (TGR) and the WMSU-Statfacts of Bien Fernandez for violating R.A. 7767 which lays down the rules and regulations in the conduct of surveys.

District I congressional aspirant Dr. Eldy Gonzales yesterday disclosed that the NZM legal group is now working for the immediate filing of the case against TGR and WMSU-Statfacts with the Comelec office.

Gonzales lambasted Fernandez for using WMSU in his business enterprise, disclosing that he is only a visiting lecturer of the university and not a real professor.

“Hinde man yo pikon si nuay entra mi nombre. But everybody is aware that survey is a form of business enterprise. Tiene ya abla comigo, siguro nuay tu paga, you see it did not come from me,’

(Im not personally affected even if my name did not appear on the survey...somebody told me that surveys are forms of business enterprise, this did not come from me) Gonzales explained.

The Lakas congressional bet said that Fernandez should apologize to the residents of Zamboanga for fooling and lying to the people that he used 20 MPA students in the conduct of the survey.

“Where did Fernandez get his 20 students to conduct the survey when it is summer vacation and there are no classes?” Gonzales asked.

Gonzales said that surveys should be conducted with a proposal with objectives and research problem. “As in this case, what problem is he solving? And why choose political issues and not problems that the city faces now. What were his motives when he (Fernandez) released the results to the media? Who benefited from it?”

The congressional bet urged WMSU Officer In-charge, president Al Mendoza not to renew Fernandez’ appointment with the university because he brought insult to the academic community especially to WMSU.

He also challenged the 20 supposed MPA students to come out in the open and testify as to what they really did.

The former WMSU president said he would elevate his complaints to the WMSU board of regents for proper action. (Nonong Santiago)
