The promotion of Zamboanga City as Asia's Latin City got support from a senatorial bet, who said the uniqueness of the city should be exploited to the fullest.
Independent senatorial candidate Francisco Pangilinan said the promotion stunt of the City Government to market Zamboanga as the Latin City of Asia is "very unique" and if elected, he said he would support the efforts of the local government to boost its tourism.
Francisco Pangilinan arrived in Zamboanga City Friday as part of his campaign sorties. He said in Asia, the Philippines, is the only country that was colonized by Spain. The city could therefore translate this uniqueness into advantages to boost its tourism, he said. He also said it was predicted that about 150 million tourists from mainland China will be coming out in the next five years and that would be a good market for the city. In addition, he said, the historical and cultural uniqueness of the city would be its asset to attract foreign tourists from Europe and other parts of the world. Zamboanga City is the only city in the country where majority of its inhabitants speaks Chavacano, a dialect with Spanish derivatives. For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General
