Opposition vice mayoralty candidate Atty. Vic R. Solis yesterday cautioned the city’s media outlets “to be prudent and circumspect in the publication or broadcast of election survey results.”
“Media must inquire into and ascertain the trustworthiness of the survey, and not simply accept them hook, line, and sinker. Media must not accept the results and the press releases of their beneficiaries unquestionably,” said Solis.
Solis was formerly the vice chairman of the KBP Standards Authority, which exercises regulatory functions over broadcast stations in the country.
Likewise, he said that all broadcast and publication of the survey results should comply with the requirements of Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Election Practices Act, including Comelec Resolution 7767.
He said that foremost, media must ascertain the trustworthiness of the results and not accept the press releases covering these results ”hook, line, and sinker and without any question.”
