Task Force Zamboanga has maintained its red alert status in Zamboanga City amid the ongoing hostilities in Sulu.

Sporadic firefights continued between government forces and renegade Moro National Liberation Front fighters led by Commander Habier Malik in Sulu resulting to casualties from both sides and triggering the evacuation of more than 800 families.

TFZ chief Col. Alfredo Peralta alerted his troops deployed in strategic areas in the city to anticipate possible spill-over atrocities here.

Peralta said that military units under his command which are deployed in coastal areas and the local port have doubled their security in anticipation of any activities of the rebels in order to divert the military’s attention in Sulu.

Tightened port security, spot and mobile checkpoints, visibility patrols mobilizations have been adopted by the military units in the city to ensure public safety.

Peralta clarified that even though their troops are on high alert status, it does not mean that they are having troops movement in the city.

The official clarified that his troops remain vigilant in their areas of responsibility. — Bhong Simbajon
