Kampi mayoralty candidate Monsi Cris dela Cruz has announced that it will be his goal to work with the national government that will reverse the isolationist practice of the present administration. In an interview, Monsi told newsmen that to attain his administration’s objective he would actively pursue closer ties with the key officials of the national government.
“We missed numerous opportunities in the past at getting very significant national government infrastructure project and funding,” he said. This is one reason, the former priest said, why the cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Iligan has overtaken Zamboanga City and continue to leave the city behind in terms of economic development. The Nuevo Zamboanga is promoting a 10-point plan to zoom the city into real progress. The highlights and salient points of its principles, goals and program include: 1. Less taxes is more! 2. Experience a new Zamboanga as the cleanest city in the Philippines. 3. Reversal of the negative perception of the city in terms of safety and security. 4. Access to free medical care for indigent families 5. Substantial livelihood program starting from technical training for all qualified individuals with a target of 10,000
scholars. 6. Micro-finance/Micro-Entrepreneur. 7. No child left behind policy. 8. Industrial scale agriculture in both the east and west coasts and support for the ship-building industry in Recodo. 9. Accessible and potable water system to all barangays. 10. Zamboanga will be transformed as the most competitive mid-size city in the country. Other proposals include effective solutions to city infrastructure maintenance woes (e.g. roads), traffic management problems and effective flood control and implementation of the Business Investment Code. In addition, respect and equal treatment of all barangay officials and other government agencies and the office of the city mayor will be opened to the public for complaints with an “Action Agad! Policy” in all city hall transactions. “Check out Monsi’s first 100 days in office where city’s financial status will be reviewed and a comprehensive security plan will be developed,” dela Cruz said.
