The City Health Office will mobilize some 150 government and private physicians and surgeons tomorrow, April 26 for the conduct of a medical outreach mission in commemoration of the Dia de Ma’am Caling
The mission which will include operation tuli and specialty clinic will be held at the CHO grounds in Pettit Barracks from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. City Health Officer Rodel Agbulos said the outreach mission is intended for indigent patients and is in honor of the 86th birthday of the late Maria Clara Lobregat, the first and only Zamboanga woman mayor, whose enormous contributions helped alleviate the plight of her constituents. The observance of Dia de Ma’am Caling is by virtue of Ordinance 278, the law declaring April 26 of every year as Dia de Ma’am Caling, approved on April 11 a year ago. 2007 is the first year of the law’s implementation. The specialty clinic will cover cases of diabetes, eye, ear, nose and throat, rheumatology and pulmonology. The mission will also include free dental services, consultations and provision of medicines. Aside from physicians and dentists from the CHO, Agbulos will also tap doctors from the Zamboanga City Medical Center, Ateneo De Zamboanga Medical School, Edwin Andrews Air Base Hospital and Camp Navarro General Hospital. Post graduate interns and private surgeons are also assisting in the 8-hour medical mission. The CHO has been conducting pre-registration and screening for the operation tuli and specialty clinic at the City Health Conference room since yesterday, April 24 until today, April 25. The medical mission is only one of the several activities lined up by the city government as a tribute to the late Mayor Lobregat, the mother of incumbent Mayor Celso Lobregat. Other activities tomorrow include a mass at 8 a.m. at the St. Joseph Church, floral offering at the foot of Ma’am Caling’s bust in Jardin Maria Clara and a commemorative program also at the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca at 9:30.
