District 1 congressional aspirant Beng Climaco has brought to the attention of the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) the issue about the recent execution of two Zamboangueño minors in Jolo for possible assistance and probe of the incident.
The two minors, both 17 - year old residents of Malagutay were part of the seven people beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf group last week their employer, Jolo Gov. Benjanmin Loong, failed to put up the P5milion ransom demand.
Climaco submitted the names of the two minors to Willy Nuqui, the UNICEF Mindanao Area head.
"Technically, the two 17-year old victims of decapitaion are children and that under the UN Convention on the Rights of Children, justice should be attained", Climaco, who is the incumbent Vice Mayor said.
The welfare and protection of children is one of Climaco's advocacies even before she joined public service in 1998. The vice mayor has initiated numerous programs for the youth and children development, one of which is the Children's Congress in Zambonga.
Aside from elevating the issue to the UNICEF, the congressional aspirant hs also coordinated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office for possible measure to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Climaco cited three issues that the concerned agencies must look into--one is that 17-year old victims are children, two is that they are engaged in hard labor and there is that they were abducted and eventually were treacherously executed.
Climaco along with Mayor Celso Lobregat and other city officials visited and assisted through the local Red Cross, the families upon the arrival of the remains of the 6 Zamboangueno victims from Jolo last weekend.
We condole and sympathize withe the families", upon the arrival of the remains of the 6 Zamboangaueno victims from Jolo last weekend.
We condole and symphatize with the families", the vice mayor said stressing that the matter should be pursued even after the victims shall have been interred.
Climaco also expressed gratitude to the military and police authorities for doing everything they can to ensure that the incident will not spill over to Zamboanga City.
