THE City Tourism Office yesterday released the list of winners in the amateur band competition dubbed as "Battle of the Bands- Year 2", held as part of the city's Summer Festival 2007.
The band "the Guild", composed Reyan Sugabon (guitarist), Julifhil Ventula (bass), Roneth Oquin (lead vocalist), Chris Aaron Dagoy (drummer), Miguel Ramos (guitarist) and Chester Manogura' (vocalist), bagged the grand prize of P5.000 out of the five grand finalists.
A total of 13 bands auditioned for the competition The number was trimmed down to 5 and they included the 'The Guild", the "El Chorde", the "Soul Agenda", the "Pure Heart Band" and the "Diorama".
The special awards went to Roneth Oquin of "The Guild" as best lead vocalist; Teodoro Torino II of the Pure Heart Band as best lead guitarist; Chris Aaron Dagoy of the "The Guild" as best drummer and Chester Manogura of the "The Guild" as best vocalist.
The Battle of the Bands or Segundo Encuentro de Chabacano Banda Musical, an amateur band competition featured original chabacano song competitions of local bands.
It was held at the Plaza Pershing Thursday, April. 26 and was part of the Dia de Ma'am Caling celebration.
City Councilor Elias Enriquez represented Mayor Celso Lobregat in awarding the prizes to the winners.
The criteria in the competition included musicality (60 percent), technique and accuracy (30 percent) and stage presence and audience impact (10 percent).
The band competition was also staged as a tribute to the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat in line with the observance of Dia de Ma'am Caling last April 26 marking her 86th birth anniversary.
The Summer Festival 2007 kicked o ff with the Zampen Kite Flying Competition at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex last April 14 that turned out to be a colorful display of flat and figure kites made by kite enthusiasts from all over Zamboanga Peninsula.
