ASIDE from barangay Camino Nuevo, the vote buying attempt of a new political group has also penetrated Canelar and several other villages but the same was aborted immediately after the news broke out three days ago.
Canelar barangay chairman Rolando Samsom said several constituents from his barangay also approached him early last week to inquire about the veracity of the P10,000 loan purportedly being offered by supporters of the new group in the guise of the party list group "Kasangga" or the Kasangga sa Kaunlaran. Just like in Camino Nuevo, the "loan offer" in Canelar provides certain requirements: the precinct number and the local party that the interested applicant is supporting. The applicant has to fill up the form, submit a 2x2 picture and he or she will be given an identification card. The loan will- be released after the election and if the mayoralty candidate of the new party will win in the May 14 polls, according to Samson. The Canelar Chief said the loan offer, which is tantamount to vote buying, was done secretly. His constituents cited names of people who approached them but Samson declined to divulge the identifications considering that the fiddle has been aborted. Samson said he also received reports that the group has also penetrated other barangays within the city proper including those located outside of the central area. Camino Nuevo Barangay Chairman Antonio Deles last Thursday bared the vote buy attempt on his constituents and even showed to media members a copy of the form where the name of the mayoralty candidate of the new political party is printed below the said form. Deles said most of those approached by the group are urban poor members, The offer, he said, was in exchange for votes for the new political group on May 14, Both the barangays of Camino Nuevo and Canelar are supporters of Mayor Celso Lobregat and his Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) party because of the present administration's good performance, efficiency and capability to lead the city of Zamboanga. Deles and Samson have maintained their unrelenting support to Lobregat and his party (AH)
