MEMBERS of the local media yesterday expressed dismay over Nuevo Zamboanga's attack on the industry saying it is uncalled for and unfair.

The Zamboanga Press Club, Inc. is set to meet to come out with a statement concerning the Nuevo Zamboanga press release that is posted in the NZM website www.vivazamboanga.com accusing the media of "distorting and censoring truths".

Most members of the local media got wind of the article headlined "LDP-media distort, censor Kampi truths" posted on-line even after Nuevo Zamboanga head Crisanto de la Cruz over radio  yesterday noon denied hitting the media and accused Mayor Celso Lobregat of concocting the story as a black propaganda.

The article has been posted by NZM since April 15 and has remained posted in the NZM  website as of press time.

When asked if teh statement is indeed from Nuevo Zamboanga, de la Cruz over Radyo Agong noontime yesterday replied: "Lord, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing".

He sais the PR is the handiwork and part of a black propaganda perpetrated by Lobregat.

The National Computer (NCC), when verified, said it is impossible for other individuals to post an article in a web page of a certain organization or group considering that only the web master has the right and access to the page.

The article accused the media of "having fallen under the guile of money influence of incumbent officials", which is why, they claimed, most media: newspapers, television and radio stations do not give prominence to de la Cruz' and Nuevo Zamboanga's activities.

The press release cited the February 12 fire incident in Pichay building fronting the Plaza Pershing when it said dela Cruz was not given proper coverage but Mayor Lobregat when in fact it was de la Cruz and the other KAMPI candidates who arrived at the fire scene first.

Lobregat has defended the media saying that the local journalists have maintained their objectivity and are steadfast in their mandate as purveyors of the truth.  He said, he also gets a share of criticisms from media members through newspaper columns or radio commentaries but he never complained.

He said he has always responded to fire calls, which is part of his official duties as chief executive but he never demanded media coverage. "The media have the right to interview whom they want to interview but normally they interview city officials.
