CITY Health Officer Rodel Agbulos has recommended to Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) warden Victor Borres to replace the old pipe of the water distribution line at the reformatory center.
Agbulos made the recommendation after it was found out that the old pipe has caused the water contamination of the ZCRC that downed several inmates.
A total of 81 inmates detained at the ZCRC were downed by loose bowel movement (LBM) the past few days due to water contamination. Most of the inmates that were downed by LBM are occupying the ZCRC's left wing building and on the second floor. Agbulos said the old pipe was already rusty -- the reason why it contaminated the potable water supply of the ZCRC. However, he said laboratory tests showed that the water was negative of e-coli even though the old pipe was located near to one of the ZCRC's comfort station. He said they would conduct lectures on basic sanitation and on food handling at the ZCRC to prevent occurrence of such incident. It is also aimed to protect the inmates detained and personnel manning the detention facility of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). There are a total of 1,302 inmates detained at the ZCRC while awaiting their respective trials in court.
