The city government through the City Veterinarian officer under Mario Arriola will host the 5th annual conference of the Provincial, City and Municipal Veterinarians’ League of the Philippines slated for May 22-24 in Zamboanga. Themed “Synchronizing the National and Local Veterinary Services”, the conference intends to sustain and embrace contingency planning on present and emerging diseases
Arriola said some 300 local chief veterinary officers representing 79 provinces, 117 cities and 1, 500 municipalities are expected to attend the conference. Likewise, officials from the National Meat Inspection Service, Bureau of Animal Industry, Livestock Development Council of the Department of Agriculture and representatives from the private sectors are expected to grace the occasion as lecturers or plenary speakers. The activity will focus on the status and updates on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, Livestock and poultry products movement and live bird marketing, Sharing of Best Practices, National and Local Government Program Synchronization, Veterinary Public Health, Bio Security and Quarantine; and Rabies Act of 2007. The city government’s hosting of the event was decided unanimously by the League’s general membership during the 4th Annual Conference held in Puerto Princesa City last year when Dr. Ariola presented his bid. Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, will welcome all participants to the city and briefly discuss on the Asia’s Latin City branding during the opening ceremonies at the Lotus Restaurant, Grand Astoria Hotel on May 22.
