Three business establishments--two internationally acclaimed fast food chains and a medicine depot--were formally inaugurated in different sites Friday, amid claims from administration critics that Zamboanga is sluggish and neglected.

The opening of the Botika ng Bayan depot in Gov. Camins and the 9th Jollibee outlet and 3rd Greenwich branch in the newly constructed Southway Mall along P. Lorenzo Street came three weeks after another investor, Filinvest Land, one of the largest real estate firm in the country, had the groundbreaking of its exclusive housing subdivision in Tumaga. Jollibee vice president Jeff Alid and Greenwich president Erwin Elichicon were one in saying that confidence in the leadership of Mayor Celso Lobregat and the business-friendly nature of the city are among the main reasons why their companies are opening more outlets in the city.

"I really like to praise the mayor and the leadership of Zamboanga," Alid said, stressing that the convergence of business in the city is a "testament to the level of development of Zamboanga."

Alid thanked the Zamboanguenos for hosting the 9th Jollibee store and for their patronage.

Elichicon cited the Greenwich company's strong confidence in the future of Zamboanga.

"We are confident that, working together, we will continue to grow and prosper under the government of Zamboanga," Elichicon stressed.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, along with District I congressional aspirant Beng Climaco and some council aspirants of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, graced the inauguration of the three establishments.

The IMEX Botika ng Bayan depot along Gov. Camins Avenue is owned by businessman Le Peng Wee and is intended to be the city's depot for cheap and affordable drugs.

"This is a living proof that Zamboanga's economy is booming and moving forward," Lobregat declared in messages he delivered at the simple program for the simultaneous inauguration of the Jollibee and Greenwich outlets.

The opening of five Jollibee outlets and other world acclaimed businesses like McDonald's, Mister Donut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Greenwich, and Dunkin Donuts among others only shows the flourishing and booming economy of the city.

While his political detractors picture Zamboanga as neglected and unprogressive, the simultaneous entry of investors in the city proves otherwise, he said. (SE)
