POLICE released the cartographic sketches of two of three suspects who were behind the bombing of a public plaza in Zamboanga City Tuesday night that injured 16 people.
Zamboanga City Police Director Manuel Barcena said the cartographic sketches of the two suspects were made based on the descriptions given by the victims of the bomb explosion.
Barcena said the two were among the three people who were seen carrying a plastic bag and acting suspiciously before the explosion at Plaza Pershing.
The first suspect is said to be between 28 to 29 years old male, medium built, fair complexion, black eyes, dyed hair, and 5'9" to 5'10" in height.
The second one is said to be between 18 to 20 years old male, medium built, fair complexion, black hair and eyes, and between 5'8" to 5'10" in height.
Barcena said they are looking at all possible motives that include extortion or if the move was a diversionary tactic of Abu Sayyaf bandits, who are being pursued in the provinces of Basilan and Sulu.
Thousands of combined Marines and Army troops are deployed in Basilan and Sulu, tracking down the al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf bandits.
"We are not discounting all possibilities," Barcena said.
He said the type of explosive that exploded at Plaza Pershing is known as Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO) bomb.
It was made of ammonium nitrate packed in a tin can with timing device, powered by dry cell batteries, and concealed in a plastic bag.
It was reported Tuesday night that there are 14 victims, but the figure went up to 16 after two other victims appeared at the government-owned Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and sought medication.
ZCMC Director Romeo Ong said the other two victims arrived at the hospital around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
