Dipolog City (24 October) -- High school graduating students with high aptitude in science and mathematics are now invited to take the science and technology scholarship test to be given simultaneously nationwide by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) on Jan. 13 next year. Engr. Marcial R. Dahonan, officer-in-charge of the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Science and Technology Center here disclosed that there are two scholarship programs for which interested students can apply. One is under RA 7687 scholarships which is open to poor but deserving students whose family annual gross income does not exceed PhP 156,600.00 and the other is under DOST-SEI merit scholarships for talented and deserving students whose family annual gross income exceeds PhP 156,600.00.
Applicants for these two scholarship programs must belong to the top five percent of the regular high school graduating class, or members of the graduating class of a DOST-SEI-identified or Dep-ED-recognized science high schools. Besides, the applicant must be a natural-born Filipino citizen and a resident of the municipality for the last four years as attested by the barangay or school records. He/she should be of good moral character and in good health. Those who have already earned units in any post-secondary or undergraduate course are disqualified from taking the test. Those who have taken DOST-SEI Science and Technology Scholarship examination and those who have applied for immigrant status in any other country are also ineligible to take the test. The scholars will enjoy tuition fee privileges, textbook allowance, monthly living allowance, uniform allowance and others. The test centers in region 9 are Isabela City in Basilan province, Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte and Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur. (PIA-ZN)
